STILLWATER, Okla. – After winning three straight conference series on their home field, the Oklahoma State Cowboys slipped up Sunday afternoon falling to the Baylor Bears by a final of 5-3.
The loss is the Big 12 Conference series loss at home for the Cowboys this season as their offense struggled again Sunday.
Even though Oklahoma State got on the board first in the bottom of the first frame on an RBI groundout by Davis Duren, Baylor held their own thanks to a solid outing on the mound for right hander Brooks Pickard.
From there it didn’t take long for the Bears to get the scoring of their own going with a solo home run in the third by Max Muncy as well as another run in the fourth off a sacrifice fly by Jake Miller.
Down 4-1 in the bottom of the eighth, OSU e rallied.
Dane Phillips got it started with a double then two batters later Jared Womack smashed ball over the right center wall for his eighth home run of the season to cut the lead to 4-3.
Then with two outs Baylor relief pitcher Trent Blank walked Mark Ginther and Gabe Weidenarr knocked an infield single to put two more on base, but Nico Rosthenhauser struck out on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning.
Baylor extended the lead in the ninth when Steve DalPorto put down a bunt with the bases loaded to score Evatt from third and put the Bears up 5-3.
Randy McCurry suffered the loss for the Cowboys allowing two runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings. Baylor’s Pinckard allowed three runs in 7.1 innings and improves to 5-2 on the season.
The loss drops Oklahoma State to fourth in the Big 12 standings with a 33-18 overall record and 13-10 mark in conference play.
The Cowboys take the field again Tuesday on the road against Missouri State at 5 p.m. before they return home to close out the regular season against Texas Tech in Lubbock beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m.
