LINCOLN, Neb. – The Oklahoma State softball team finished the regular season with a 3-1 loss to Nebraska Sunday.
The Cornhuskers (39-12, 9-9) jumped on the board early with a solo home run by Julie Brechtel in the bottom of the first inning. Nikki Haget then delivered a two-run single in the second inning for a 3-0 lead, and Nebraska did not score for the rest of the game.
But the Cowgirls (37-17, 8-10) could not muster enough offense to mount a comeback. Their only run came in the fourth, when Alysia Hamilton led off with a double. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored after a throwing error.
Ashley Hagemann started on the mound for Nebraska and earned her 29th win of the season. She held OSU to just four hits, and the only run she allowed was unearned.
Simone Freeman started for OSU, but only lasted 1.1 innings. She allowed all three runs on only two hits and finished with her eighth loss of the year.
The Cowgirls now will wait to hear about their NCAA Regionals fate, but they won’t have to wait long. ESPNU will air the NCAA Softball Selection Show at 9 p.m. Sunday.
