NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma softball team fought through six innings of scoreless play before Katie Norris ended things with a walk-off two-run home run to beat Texas A&M 2-0 Saturday.
The Sooners put runners on base in four of the game’s first six innings, but could never string enough together to break into the run column.
Norris stepped to the plate in the seventh with a runner on first and one out, and promptly launched a pitch over the left field wall for the first walk-off home run of her career.
Meanwhile, starter Keilani Ricketts overpowered the Texas A&M hitters all day. She pitched a complete game while giving up just one hit and striking out 15 for her 21st win of the season. The one hit Ricketts allowed came in the third inning, when the better eventually was thrown out stealing to end the inning.
Ricketts’ complete game was her 25th of the season, and her 15 strikeouts bring her to 339 for the year, just 17 shy of the program record.
The Sooners’ victory ended a three-game losing streak, and they also had been shut out in their past two games. They split the two-game series with the Aggies, and will face rival Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Stillwater.
