TULSA, Okla. – Aimee Creger threw a two-hit complete game shutout and the Tulsa softball team fought through another pitchers’ duel Saturday in a 1-0 victory over UAB.

The only run for Tulsa (27-12, 16-5) came in the first inning, and it was unearned. Caitlin Everett led off with a double, and then advanced to third thanks to a throwing error in the next at-bat. Samantha Cobb drove her home with a sacrifice fly later in the inning, and that was the end of the day’s scoring.

Creger took over after that and continued her dominant freshman season. She struck out four of the first five batters she faced, and cruised through the Blazers’ (33-15, 13-5) lineup until the final inning.

She carried a no-hitter in the seventh, but suddenly went from trying to make history to being in danger of losing the lead. Catherine Douglass led off the inning with a single to break up the no-hit bid, and Mandy Lowman delivered another single to put the game-tying run in scoring position.

But Creger stepped up and struck out Kate Armstrong before inducing a fly ball to end the threat and secure the win. She moved to 19-2 on the season and had more strikeouts (seven) than hits and walks combined (three).

Saturday’s victory gave the Golden Hurricane another conference series win, and TU still has not lost a home series all year. The Hurricane will remain in Tulsa for its next game against Missouri State at 4 p.m. Wednesday, its final non-conference game of the season.
