NORMAN, Oklahoma -- No. 11 Oklahoma hosted Dallas Baptist Tuesday in a mid-week, non-conference matchup and was handed a 3-2 loss by the Division I independent Patriots.
Dallas Baptist (23-12) ace Brandon Williams (7-1) kept the Sooners’ offense in check for most of the game, pitching three shutout innings to start the contest. After seven innings of service, he gave up seven hits and two earned runs, while striking out five in the win.
For the Sooners (26-11), Kindle Ladd (0-1) received his first loss of the season, giving up four hits and three earned runs in 4.2 innings pitched.
The Patriots managed to put up all of their runs in the top of the third and had to hold a one-run lead for the game’s final three innings.
In the top of the third, Dallas Baptist’s Joel Hunter lead off with a first-pitch double down the right field line and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat. Landon Anderson followed with an RBI single to bring Hutter across the plate and take a 1-0 advantage.
Anderson would then steal second, while Tyler Robbins followed with a walk to put runners on first and second. Jason Krizan doubled to right field in the next at-bat scored both Anderson and Robbins to take a 3-0 lead.
Oklahoma scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs on the board and the bases loaded, Williams threw a wild pitch, allowing Tyler Ogle to score from third and cut the deficit to 2-1.
Eric Ross tried his best to keep the Sooners in the game, navigating the basepaths in the bottom of the fifth. After hitting a leadoff single, he stole second, finally advancing to third and then home on back-to-back fly outs.
The Sooners will play one more non-conference matchup at 6:30 Wednesday against Bacone College.
