SAN ANTONIO – The Tulsa Drillers got off to a good start in their series against the San Antonio Missions, picking up a 5-0 victory on Sunday.
Tulsa controlled the game from start to finish, thanks in large part to an impressive team pitching performance.
Chris Malone got the win for the Drillers, allowing two hits in two innings. Josh Sullivan threw four innings and gave up two hits.
Bronson Sardinha got the scoring going for Tulsa with a homer to lead off the top of the second.
In the third, Darin Holcomb sac-fly to center field brought home Josh Sullivan for a 2-0 lead.
The game became a defensive battle for four innings before the Drillers struck again in the eighth.
Holcomb and Sardinha each picked up another RBI to increase the lead to 4-0, and a final run on a double from Hector Gomez rounded out the scoring for Tulsa in the top of the ninth.
The series will continue in San Antonio at 7:05 p.m. on Monday.
