STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State softball team record its fifth win in its last six games Sunday with a 7-1 blowout of No. 25 Texas Tech.
The Cowgirls (34-10, 5-4) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning thanks to three consecutive hits with two outs. Chelsea Garcia and Julie Ward delivered back-to-back RBI singles for a 2-0 lead, and those turned out to be the only runs OSU needed.
Texas Tech (39-9, 4-8) scored one run in the second inning on a solo home run by Cydney Allen, but that was the only mistake OSU pitcher Simone Freeman made all day. Freeman did not allow another hit for the rest of the game and struck out a total of 14 batters, the most by a Cowgirl since 2003.
Oklahoma State added an insurance run in the bottom second with a solo homer by Amy Graham, but they blew the game open in the fifth. Graham led off with her second home run of the day, and OSU went on to score four runs in the frame to finish the scoring.
Freeman pitched a complete game for her ninth win of the season, and she faced just two batters over the minimum. Brittany Talley received a loss for Tech and allowed seven runs on 10 hits in four innings of work.
The Cowgirls will hit the road for their next game at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Wichita State, the last non-conference team they will face this season.
