CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Tulsa Drillers gave up hits early and often on their way to an 8-2 loss against the Corpus Christi Hooks on Wednesday night.
The Hooks didn’t wait long to get the scoring going, racking up three runs in the bottom of the first.
The Drillers didn’t pick up their first run until the fourth, when Wilin Rosario solo homered to cut the lead to 3-1.
After another Corpus Christi run in the bottom of the fourth, Tulsa picked up its second and final run of the night in the fifth.
Tim Wheeler sent up a sacrifice fly to bring home Thomas Field and cut the lead to 4-2, but that’s as close as Tulsa would get.
The Hooks responded with another run in the fifth and a three-run seventh inning to finish it out.
Aristil Friedrich was credited with the loss, pitching six innings and giving up eight hits and seven runs.
Erick Abreu got the win for Corpus Christi.
The three-game series will continue Friday at 6:35 p.m. in Corpus Christi.
