NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Seventh-inning heroics lifted the Oklahoma Sooners softball team to a 3-2, come-from-behind victory over the Baylor Bears in their series opener Saturday.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI single from Kelsi Kettler and a Megan Turk solo home run, the Sooners (32-12, 5-2) did all of their work with one out on the board.
With the bases loaded, Destinee Martinez singled to right center, bringing Chana’e Jones and Javen Henson in from second and third to tie the game.
In the next at-bat, Jessica Shults hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to bring Brianna Turang home from third and extend the Sooners’ win streak to five games.
Keilani Ricketts (19-6) had a rare rocky outing, giving up two earned runs on five hits in her seven innings pitched, but still managed to strike out eight of the 26 batters she faced. Whitney Canion (16-5) was credited with the loss for the Bears (30-7, 4-3) after giving up seven hits and three earned runs in 6.2 innings of service.
Oklahoma will cap off the two-game series at 12 p.m. Sunday before hosting rival Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
