STILLWATER, Okla. – Sources confirmed to Oklahoma Sports that OSU forward Roger Franklin was granted a release from the university and will be transferring out to play basketball closer to home.
Franklin’s father, Roger, has been ill recently and the health concerns have played a part in Franklin’s decision.
Franklin just finished his sophomore season for the Cowboys, averaging 1.7 points and 2.3 rebounds.
He is from Duncanville, Texas, near the Dallas metro area and plans on transferring to a school in the area.
Several schools that are currently on his list of potential destinations include North Texas, Texas-Arlington, Texas Christian and SMU.
Franklin was rated as the No. 98 player in the 2009 recruiting class and chose OSU over several other schools such as Arizona, Michigan State, UCLA and Oklahoma.
Franklin is a fan favorite in Stillwater and is known for his energy and hustle on the court.
Oklahoma Sports will update this story as more details become available.
