TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa Golden Hurricane earned two more wins Wednesday to improve to 29-9 on the season after beating the Wichita State Shockers.

Game One

The Golden Hurricane held the Shockers to just one run in game one. A Tulsa error allowed Jamie Hull to score for Wichita State in the top of the sixth.

TU got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead. A single by Shelby Blanton allowed Lauren Menke to score after a Shocker error. Tulsa notched another run in the top of the fourth for the 3-0 lead. Following the Shockers’ lone run in the top of the sixth, the Golden Hurricane answered back in the bottom of the inning. Aimee Crager hit a leadoff homer to right center field, securing Tulsa’s 4-1 win.

Lacey Middlebrooks earned the win after throwing 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and one run. She struck out three batters.

Brianna Smet threw 4.0 innings, allowing seven hits to finish with the loss.

Game Two

It was three-up, three-down to open the second game, as Tulsa’s Jordan Kinard got things started on the mound for the Tulsa 5-0 shutout of the Shockers. The Shockers’ fielding kept the Golden Hurricanes from reaching first after nothing a strike out and fielding two pop flies to end the inning 0-0.

Wichita State again struggled to get anything started against Kinard in the second, while the Golden Hurricane replayed the first inning, striking out once and popping out twice.

Wichita State left two on base in the top of the third, but couldn’t string together enough hits to get on the board. Tulsa, however, put up two runs after Kelly Chapman hit a two-run homer to take a 2-0 lead. The Golden Hurricanes’ bat continued to heat up, as they notched two more runs in the bottom of the third. Samantha Cobb doubled to right field, hitting home Jill Barrett and Skylar Swanson singled to right field, as Cobb crossed the plate for the 5-0 win. Kinard pitched all 7.0 innings for the win, allowing just four hits while striking out 16 batters.

Sloan Anderson threw 3.0 innings, allowing six hits for the loss.

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane begin a three-game series against Southern Mississippi on April 9 at 1 p.m.
