Sooners’ Sticks Help Team to 11-1 Win over Tech

The Oklahoma Sooners earned their second win over the Red Raiders in the teams’ three-game series.

NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Sooners (21-6, 4-3) warmed their sticks up quickly, taking a quick lead to help beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 11-1 in the second game of the teams’ three-game series.

While Oklahoma’s pitching helped carry them through to a 10-1 win over the Red Raiders in game one, the Sooners’ sticks were the headliners in the second contest.

Oklahoma posted four runs in the first inning for a quick lead. Garrett Buechele singled to right for an RBI, hitting home Tyler Ogle for a 1-0 lead. Buechele was hit home himself o the next at-bat when Cameron Seitzer tripled to center. The Sooners’ third run came when Max White singled to left, hitting home Seitzer for the RBI. Cody Reine’s single up the middle drove in White for OU’s fourth and final run of the inning.

The Red Raiders’ bats were held silent throughout much the game, as the Sooners pulled ahead even more. Reine earned his second RBI of the game in the third inning, hitting a single to right field, allowing Seitzer to score. The Sooners ended the third inning ahead, 7-0, and tacked on three additional runs in the bottom of the fourth for the 10-0 lead.

Freshman Dillon Overton took over in the fourth inning, relieving Bobby Shore, who threw 3.2 innings, allowing three hits while striking out six Tech batters. Overton completed 2.1 innings on the mound, allowing just one hit while striking out two of the nine batters he faced. Oklahoma went through a bevy of pitchers throughout the remainder of the game, featuring Jordan John, Cayle Shambaugh, Anthony Collazo and Tyson Seng. Shambaugh allowed the only run on the only hit between the four.

The Sooners’ last run came in the bottom of the seventh when a while pitch send Ricky Eisenberg home for the 11-0 lead. Tech answered back in the eighth with their sole score, when Barrett Barnes hit a homer to left field.

Overton earned the win for the Sooners, while Tech’s Trey Masek finished with the loss. He pitched 2.1 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits. He struck out two Sooners hitters.

The Sooners lead the series 2-0 now, and will face the Red Raiders in the last game Sunday at 1 p.m.
