Tulsa Sweeps Doubleheader against Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tennessee -- The Tulsa softball team swept a doubleheader against Memphis Saturday 4-1 and 2-1 (8), both games featuring a complete-game performance from Golden Hurricane pitchers.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, Tulsa (26-9, 9-2) pitcher Aimee Creger (12-1) pitched a complete-game no-hitter, despite giving up one unearned run in the bottom of the sixth. The freshman from Yukon, Okla. struck out 15 batters in her series-opening win over Memphis.

For Memphis (21-7, 6-3), Carly Hummel also hurled a complete-game, giving up four earned runs on three hits and struck out nine in the loss.

In the top of the sixth, Tulsa’s Caitlin Everett tripled to right center and was driven home in the next at-bat by Jill Barrett double to left-center, advancing to third on an error, to take a 1-0 lead. Hummel hit Samantha Cobb in the next at-bat to put runners on first and third.

Skylar Swanson homered to left center in the next at-bat to take a 4-0 advantage.

Despite the extra innings, Jordan Kinard (6-4) pitched a complete-game, giving up just one run on five hits and striking out 11 in the win. Lauren Carley (3-2) was credited with a loss for the outing, despite coming in for 2.2 innings of relief.

In the top of the first, Everett singled, and moved into scoring position by stealing both second and third. Cobb drove Everett home in the next at-bat with a double down the left field line.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the first when Maddie McKinley lined out to left field to scored Heather Mott from third.

Tulsa broke the tie in the top of the eighth with Kelly Chapman solo home run to claim the sweep in the doubleheader.
