NORMAN, Okla. -- Sources confirmed to Oklahoma Sports Friday that an agreement has been reached between UNLV coach Lon Kruger and the University of Oklahoma for Kruger to become the next head men’s basketball coach for the Sooners.

UNLV beat reporter Ryan Greene from the Las Vegas Sun reported via Twitter Friday afternoon that the UNLV players have been called in for a meeting, which he believes indicates Kruger is heading to Norman, Okla.

Kruger played for Kansas State and won Big Eight Player of the Year in 1973 and 1974. After getting his first head coaching job at Texas-Pan American, he returned to Kansas State to coach for four years.

Since then, he has coached at Florida, Illinois and UNLV, and has had moderate success at each stop. He holds a career record of 479-304, a winning percentage of 61 percent.

Kruger led UNLV to the NCAA Tournament in four of the last five years, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2007. The furthest a Kruger-led team made it in the tournament came in 1994, when he took Florida to the Final Four.

Oklahoma Sports will bring you information on this story as it becomes available.
