TULSA, Oklahoma – The Tulsa Oilers clinched a playoff spot a couple weeks ago. And the team already knows they’ll host a first round series. But they’re specific seed in the Berry Conference was still up in the air.
On Saturday night, the Oilers hosted Wichita with a chance to take over 3rd place in the conference outright.
Tulsa got off to a fast start, but they weren’t able to score in the 1st. Unfortunately, Wichita was able to put one in the net. And after 1 period, the Thunder were up 1-0.
The Oilers did heat up in the 2nd period. The team scored 2 goals in a span of 50 seconds, then added one more later in the period to open up a 3-1 lead.
Wichita wouldn’t go down easy and they did score once more to pull within one goal. But the Oilers were able to hold on and beat the Thunder 4-2.
That win moves Tulsa to 35-25-5 on the year and it gives them a total of 75 points. At the same time on Saturday night, Texas blew a 4-0 lead as they lost to Rio Grande Valley 5-4. That loss, combined with Tulsa’s win, means the Oilers now own the 3rd spot in the Berry Conference outright.
The Oilers will wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon when they host Allen. Tulsa needs a win or a regulation tie to clinch the 3rd seed outright.
