OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma Sports’s Dean Blevins interviewed Toby Rowland, who was just named OU’s Voice of the Sooners.
The two discussed Toby’s recent announcement, his new responsibilities and his thoughts on developing a new catch phrase.
Rowland also touched on how being passed up for a commentator position with the Thunder lead to his childhood dream coming true.
“When God closes a door, he opens a window,” Rowland said. “That’s exactly what happens?we’re thankful things worked out the way they did. God’s been good to us.”
Toby will be covering both football and men’s basketball, hosting coaching shows and summer caravans. While Rowland has a strong fan base, some people have expressed negative opinions on the promotion.
“Not everyone’s in favor of it?” Rowland joked. “I’m excited, I’m extremely confident in my play-by-play capabilities?I hope they’ll be happy.”
To Toby’s fans, he said this:
“Thank you for your support. The phone calls and e-mails and text messages?has been overwhelming,” Rowland said. “I’ll do my best to make you proud.”
