TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa softball team completed a three-game sweep of UCF and remained undefeated in conference play with a 7-3 victory Sunday.
The Golden Hurricane (22-7, 6-0) took the lead early thanks to a two-run double by Skylar Swanson in the bottom of the first inning. The score remained 2-0 until TU blew the game open in the third.
The Hurricane batted around in the third inning and scored four runs, all with two outs. After two straight fielder’s choices, Aimee Creger stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run to double the lead to 4-0.
The next three batters followed with two singles and a walk, loading the bases for Kelly Chapman. Chapman worked things to a full count and drew a walk to bring home one run and keep the bases loaded. Caitlin Everett followed with an RBI single to finish the innings scoring and give TU a 6-0 lead.
UCF (10-20, 2-4) got on the board in the fifth inning thanks to an unearned run that scored on a wild pitch, but Tulsa responded with another run in the bottom of the frame thanks to another RBI by Everett.
The Knights added one more run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but never really threatened to eliminate the deficit.
After a slow start to the season, Tulsa has been on a tear lately. The Hurricane has won eight consecutive games and 19 of its last 21. TU remains tied with UAB for first place in Conference USA.
The Hurricane will return to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Oklahoma. OU was the last team to beat Tulsa in a 9-0 blowout on March 9.
