CLEARWATER, Fla. – The No. 20 Oklahoma State softball team finished play at the USF-The Game Tournament by run-ruling Rutgers in a 10-2 victory Sunday.
Ashley Boyd led the Cowgirls (25-6) with two home runs on the day, the first of which came in the second inning and gave OSU a 3-0 lead. OSU added an unearned run in the third inning.
Rutgers (11-13) got on the board in the fourth inning, when a runner scored from third on a double steal attempt. The Scarlet Knights added a second run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 4-2.
Boyd responded with her second homer of the game, this one a two-run shot to left field, to extend the OSU lead to four. The Cowgirls then blew things open with four more runs in the sixth, which prompted the run-rule and ended the game an inning early.
The Cowgirls won all five of their games in the USF Tournament and have won 11 of their last 12 games. They will try to continue that hot streak when they go on the road to face Missouri State in their next game at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
