TULSA, Oklahoma -- Led by two strong pitching outings, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane softball team swept a series-opening doubleheader 5-1 and 6-1 against the Marshall Thundering Herd Saturday, extending its win streak to seven games.

The opening game was dominated by pitcher Aimee Creger (10-1), who notched her 10th win with a complete-game performance against Marhsall. The freshman from Mustang High School allowed just one run on six hits, while striking out eight of the 28 batters she faced.

Lacey Dinney (7-5) received the loss for her outing, after giving up four earned runs on six hits in her six innings of work.

The Golden Hurricane did most of its damage in the bottom of the fifth with two outs on the board.

With two on base, Samantha Cobb singled to center field to bring Kelly Chapman and Keri Leach home to take a 2-0 lead. In the next at-bat, Skylar Swanson homered to center field to add two more runs to the lead.

In the nightcap, Jordan Kinard (5-4) kept the Marshall offense off the board until the game’s final inning. The senior righty gave up just one earned run on five hits and struck out four in the win. Haley Douglas gave up six earned runs on six hits and walked five batters in her 2.1 innings of service.

Tulsa recorded another four-run inning, however it was the bottom of the first inning that TU scored its runs.

Three at-bats into the game, Cobb homered to center field with two runners on base to score three runs early on. Three at-bats later, Cassidy Bowen singled to center field to score Lacey Middlebrooks from third to take a four-run lead.

Tulsa will attempt to pull off the series sweep at noon Sunday at the Hardesty Complex, before hosting the Oklahoma Sooners Wednesday.
