FULLERTON, Calif. – The OU softball team saw its 11-game winning streak snapped with a 2-1 loss to Notre Dame on Wednesday.
Keilani Ricketts had a solid day in the circle despite the loss, throwing a full seven innings and giving up six hits and one earned run.
But when it came to offense, the Sooners simply couldn’t convert.
OU had nine hits but was only able to convert one of those into a run.
Oklahoma struck first in the bottom of the second inning, with Keilani Ricketts doing it all for the Sooners. She blasted a solo homer to left field on a full count to lead off the Sooners’ half of the second inning and give her team a 1-0 lead.
OU managed to get runners on second and third later in the inning but left both stranded.
The Irish did not take long to respond as Brianna Jorgensborg scored on an OU throwing error in the next inning to tie it up.
In the top of the fourth, Jorgensborg doubled to right field to bring home Amy Buntin in what would prove to be the winning run.
Brianna Turang, Chana’e Jones and Dani Dobbs all had two hits each to lead Oklahoma offensively.
Laura Winter pitched the entire game for Notre Dame and got the win.
The Sooners will take on DePaul on Thursday at 11 a.m. and Arizona at 5:30 p.m.
