SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Oklahoma baseball team won its 14th consecutive game to start the season Sunday in a 13-5 rout of San Diego State.
SDSU jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first, but it was all Sooners (14-0) from there.
OU batted around in the second inning and scored six runs, starting with an RBI double by Casey Johnson. Cale Ellis tied the game with an RBI on a bunt single, and Max White gave the Sooners their first lead with a three-run home run. Cody Reine added an RBI single to make the score 6-2.
Evan Mistich led off the third with a homer, and Garrett Buechele delivered a two-run double in the sixth to extend the lead to 9-2. The Aztecs scored three in the bottom of the seventh, but OU added more runs in each of the final three innings to cement the blowout.
The Sooners’ victory continued to add to their longest winning streak to start a season in program history, and also marked the seventh time already this season they have scored in double figures.
Sunday’s game completed the USD Tournament, and OU now will return to Norman for a three-game series against Arkansas-Little Rock starting at 3 p.m. Friday.
