STILLWATER, Okla. – The Cowboys probably didn’t realize that their RBI single in the first inning would be the last run they scored that game.
They probably also didn’t realize it would still be enough to win it for them.
Oklahoma State held off Cal Poly 1-0 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday to move to 5-1 on the season.
The Cowboys’ first game of the day against the Mustangs was not quite as tight – OSU won that one 8-2.
OSU’s Friday game against Cal Poly (0-5) was postponed due to weather and became the first game of the doubleheader Saturday.
In the first game, runs came easily for the Cowboys starting in the bottom of the second.
OSU led off with a double from Jared Womack and a triple from Luis Uribe to get on the board. Andrew Heck grounded out to drive Uribe in and give the Cowboys a 2-0 lead.
The fifth inning was eerily similar. A triple from Dane Phillips scored two, followed by a double from Gabe Weidenaar to give OSU a 5-2 lead.
OSU added two more in the sixth and another in the eighth to seal the victory.
Brad Propst picked up the win in the first game to improve to 2-0.
The second game belonged to Oklahoma State pitcher Andrew Heaney.
A two-out, RBI single from Womack brought in Zach Johnson in the first and Heaney took over from there, giving up just four hits in eight innings and striking out three.
Heaney also improved to 2-0 in picking up the win.
Oklahoma State will look to sweep the series on Sunday when it takes on the Mustangs at 1 p.m. in Stillwater.
