NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 4 OU baseball team continued its offensive tear to start the season Saturday with a 12-6 win over Oakland.
The Sooners (8-0) were carried by their huge fifth inning, which they entered trailing 4-3. Three of OU’s first four batters of the inning reached safely to load the bases with one out, and Cody Reine tied the game with a bunt single that kept the bases full.
Tyler Ogle delivered a two run double to give OU the lead, and Cameron Seitzer followed with a two-run double of his own in the next at-bat.
Seitzer later scored on a bunt single by Jack Mayfield – the Sooners’ third bunt single of the inning – to give OU six runs in the inning and jump to a five-run lead, which it held for the rest of the day.
The Sooners added a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Garrett Buechele and two more in eighth. OU now has scored at least 10 runs in five of its last six games.
Bobby Shore earned his first win of the season, giving up four earned runs on four hits in seven innings of work. Aaron Wick was credited with the loss after surrendering nine runs on 12 hits in only 4.1 innings.
The two teams will complete their three-game series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
