GREENVILLE, North Carolina -- The Tulsa Golden Hurricane dropped its tenth consecutive conference game Thursday 65-55 against the East Carolina Pirates.
The Golden Hurricane made the game’s first shot to take a 2-0 lead, but on East Carolina’s next possession, Allison Spivey hit a 3-pointer to take the lead and the Pirates wouldn’t surrender it.
Tulsa remained close for most of the contest and trailed 47-45 with just 10 minutes left on the clock, but the offense seemed to dry up and East Carolina moved to put the game out reach. The Pirates strung together a 16-4 run over the next six-and-a-half minutes to take a 62-49 advantage with just 3:25 left to play.
Despite the deficit, Tulsa tried to battle back and went on a 6-3 run to close the game, but couldn’t cut it to single digits.
Guard Allison Spivey set the pace for the Pirates, scoring 15 points, grabbing seven rebounds and coming up with three steals. Kim Gay contributed 13 points and five boards in the win for East Carolina.
Taleya Mayberry was the high scorer for Tulsa with 15 points, dishing out five assists and recording five steals, while Chanice Scott scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds.
The road swing continues for Tulsa, as it heads to New Orleans Saturday for a matchup against the Tulane Green Wave.
