OU Softball Run-Rules Second Consecutive Opponent
The Sooners launched two grand slams on the way to 16 runs.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Oklahoma softball team run-ruled its second straight opponent and sixth already this season with a 16-0 dismantling of New Mexico State Sunday.
The Sooners (11-1) scored in each of the game’s five innings, starting with a two-run home run by Jessica Shults in the first. They added three more runs in the second inning to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Haley Nix led off the third with a solo homer, and OU went off in the final two innings. Shults stepped to the plate with the bases loaded in the fourth and launched a grand slam for her second home run of the game and give the Sooners an even 10 runs.
OU continued to pile on in the fifth inning, when Nix also hit a grand slam for her second homer of the game. Katie Norris added an RBI double, and Javen Hensen scored on an error to finish the scoring.
The Sooners have been on a tear to start the season and have now scored more than 10 runs five times this year, including each of their lasrt three games. They finished the Troy Cox Classic with a 5-0 record, including two wins over New Mexico State (9-3).
OU’s next action will come in another multi-day tournament, this time the Cathedral City Classic in California starting at 5 p.m. Thursday against Georgia.
