TULSA, Oklahoma - National Signing Day has been relatively uneventful for our local colleges. But, the University of Tulsa did end up making a slight change to their signing list.
Gilmer (TX) running back Gus Johnson had previously committed to TU. Oklahoma Sports emailed his high school coach a couple weeks ago, and on January 20, Coach Traylor told us that Johnson was "still committed" to TU.
However, on Wednesday, Johnson signed with Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas.
We spoke with Coach Traylor on Wednesday morning and he said Johnson was told he "didn't meet Tulsa's academic requirements".
Coach Traylor also said Johnson had been excited to go to Tulsa, but he's now looking forward to playing at Stephen F. Austin, especially since it’s close to home.
TU still had a busy signing day as they had 22 recruits commit to the Golden Hurricane.
