AUSTIN, Texas – Too many turnovers spelled disaster for the OSU Cowgirls on Saturday in a 63-56 loss to the Longhorns at the Erwin Events Center.

Texas picked up its first conference win (12-7, 1-4) by forcing Oklahoma State into a season-high 26 turnovers, including 18 in the first half.

The Longhorns hit just one of their first eight shots, but Chasidy Fussell scored eight straight as part of a 12-3 run. Texas hit nine of its next 13 shots after the slow start to build a 24-11 lead.

OSU’s 18 first-half turnovers led to 24 points for the Longhorns and Texas held a 33-22 lead at the break.

OSU (13-5, 1-4) was able to cut back into the lead partway into the second half, cutting the UT margin to 38-31 with 14 minutes in the game.

With six minutes remaining, the Cowgirls scrapped their way back into the game, pulling to within 50-46 before Texas responded with an 8-1 run.

Oklahoma State pulled to within four again, this time at 58-54 with a minute left, but Texas hit its free throws to hold off the Cowgirls.

Fussell scored 21 to lead all scorers, while Toni Young posted a team-high 14 points and grabbed a double-double with 10 boards.

Lindsey Keller added 10 points and eight boards.

OSU failed to reach the free throw line with any consistency in the game, shooting just nine in the game and hitting four.

The Cowgirls also held a remarkable 52-31 rebounding advantage despite the loss.

OSU will host Bedlam in Stillwater on Jan. 29.
