Holgorsen Introduced as Offensive Coordinator at WVU

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia—Former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen was introduced as the offensive coordinator and head coach in-waiting at the University of West Virginia Wednesday afternoon.

“We are very excited about the future of our program with Coach Stewart at the helm next year and Coach Holgorsen as the offensive coordinator,” said West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck.

Luck said he expects the transition to be easy and says it will start after the bowl game as both West Virginia and Oklahoma State have bowl games to focus on.

“Just like what you guys are about to do, my next step is to fly to San Antonio and try to finish what I started, getting them (OSU) from 10 wins to 11 wins in the bowl game,” said Holgorsen.

Coach Holgorsen went on to say that moving to WVU immediately was not realistic, and that he wanted to finish the job he started at Oklahoma State, especially since he has such good relationships with players.

Current WVU head coach Bill Stewart said that although the 2011 season is looking a bit ahead, he is excited to have Holgorsen on staff and says he “is a great coach, and heck of a guy.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for me and I am excited for the next six years ahead of me, and I am looking forward to making this my home,” said Holgorsen.

For now, the Mountaineer football team is preparing for its matchup against NC State in the Champs Sports Bowl on Dec. 28.

Meanwhile Holgorsen will join the OSU Cowboys in the Alamo Bowl against the Arizona Wildcats Dec. 29.

Not only is this bowl game a school record fifth-straight bowl appearance for Oklahoma State, but a win would also be a school record for the program with its 11th victory this season.

As far as a timeline goes, as of January 1, Stewart and Holgorsen will begin their work together to make West Virginia the best it can be. Stewart said at that time they will continue recruiting to get the right people in the right spots and Holgorsen will begin implementing schemes for the Mountaineers.

When asked why he chose WVU Holgorsen said “first of all you want to go somewhere where you are surrounded by good people and second of all where you can win football games.”
