NORMAN, Oklahoma – The No. 11 OU women’s basketball team continued its dominant run to start the season with a 94-45 rout of Sam Houston State Wednesday.
The Sooners (7-0) were on fire from beyond the arc all night, making a total of 15 3-pointers. Morgan Hook came off the bench and broke an OU freshman record with seven 3-pointers by herself. OU also out-rebounded the Bearkats (5-3) 58-38, shot 44 percent from the field and made 19 of 22 free throws.
The Sooners trailed 6-4 early in the game, but a seven-point run but them ahead and they never looked back. They took a 28-point lead into halftime and coasted for the rest of the night.
Hook finished with a game-high 25 points and was one of five Sooners to score in double digits. Danielle Robinson finished with 17, Aaryn Ellenburg scored 12, and Nicole Griffin and Lauren Willis each scored 10. Willis’ points all came on 3-pointers, and she finished a perfect 3-of-3 from long distance.
Sequeena Thomas led Sam Houston State with 15 points, while Chanice Smith added 13. The Bearkats shot a miserable 25 percent for the game, mostly because they began repeatedly attempting 3-pointers. They finished just 4-of-22 from beyond the arc.
The Sooners have steamrolled their competition so far this season, with their closest game a nine-point win over Gardner-Webb. Wednesday marked the second time in four games they have broken 90 points, and the third time this season they have won by more than 40 points.
Six of OU’s seven wins have come at home, but it will hit the road for its next game against Ohio State at 5 p.m. Sunday. The Sooners won their only other road game of the year 76-59 in their season opener against Milwaukee.
