TULSA, Oklahoma – After a frantic game with 20 lead changes and nine ties, the Houston Cougars eventually knocked off Oral Roberts 93-89 on Saturday.
Neither team was able to lead by more than six points in the first half. The Golden Eagles were down four points with 52 seconds in the first when Kevi Luper and Jaci Bigham hit back-to-back 3s to give ORU a two-point lead at the break.
Midway through the second half, Houston opened up the biggest lead of the game at 10 points.
But once again ORU fought back, outscoring the Cougars 18-8 over the following three minutes to tie the game at 85.
The Cougars drained a 3 on the following possession and were able to hit their free throws to finish out the game.
Luper led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 30 points and added six boards. Bigham fell one rebound short of a triple-double with 22 points, 10 assists and nine boards.
ORU will hit the road again to take on Missouri State at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday.
