ALBURQUERQUE, New Mexico -- The Oklahoma State Cowgirls improved to 5-0 and notched an opening-round in the UNM Tournament Friday with a 94-45 win over the Rhode Island Rams.
OSU opened up the game on a 15-0 run, which turned into a 26-7 10 minutes into the first half. The Cowgirls finished the half with a 46-19 lead.
Laykn Garrison paced all scorers in the first half with 14 points, 12 coming from behind the arc, while Toni Young added nine and two boards.
The Rams started the second half with an 8-3 run, but were unable to maintain that steam and stifle the Cowgirls’ hot hands.
Oklahoma State shot 61.3 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes to score 48 in the closing half.
Young finished the night with a game-high 18 points and six rebounds. Garrison, who only took two shots in the second half, finished the game with 17 points and three assists.
The Cowgirls will face host University of New Mexico Saturday at 8 p.m. for the tournament title.
