NORMAN, Oklahoma – OU coach Jeff Capel received a signed letter of intent from junior college preseason All-American Robert Goff on Monday.

Goff is a 6-9, 230-pound power forward who attends Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College.

He started his college career at Cowley County (Kan.) Community College and averaged 9.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots in his freshman season.

His coach at Cowley, Steve Eck, took the coaching position at Hutchinson and Goff went with him, but sat out a year due to transfer rules.

Goff will be eligible to play for the Sooners to start the 2011-12 season and will have two years of Division I eligibility.

"We identified him very early as someone we really wanted, and we're fortunate that he's a Sooner,” Capel said.

Capel also said that Goff will be able to come in and contribute immediately for his squad.

“I think he can be an anchor for our defense with his ability to clog up the lane and block shots,” he said. “Offensively, he has skill. He can also really run the floor.

“The thing I'm excited about is he's a great kid. He has a strong desire to grow as a basketball player and as a young man."

During a press conference at his signing, Goff said that he was close to Capel and felt connected with Oklahoma.

“They like to get up and down the floor and that's what I like to do,” Goff said. “I want to go and get a lot of rebounds and block a lot of shots."
