RICHMOND, Virginia-- The Indoor Football League announced Monday the addition of a new member team in Oklahoma City for the 2011 season.
The news comes after Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz also announced Monday they will not be apart of the Arena Football League in 2011, which made way for the new ownership group to lead the IFL expansion team to Oklahoma City in 2011.
"We are very pleased to continue our growth today with the addition of Oklahoma City", commented IFL Commissioner Tommy Benizio, "The new ownership group is very impressive, as are both the community and the arena. We fully expect to provide a great product to the city and see great results on and off the field."
The new team is scheduled to make its formal announcement during the first week of November. The team is also set to have a "Name the Team" contest for community members to vote on their favorite title for the new team.
The Indoor Football League was created in 2008 from a merger between the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football Association. It consists of 26 teams located across the United States from Alaska to Richmond, VA.
