OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Barons had to come from behind to do it, but picked up their first win in franchise history Saturday night in a 4-3 victory against the Lake Erie Monsters.
Center Brad Moran played a significant role in the OKC victory, to say the least, putting up the first hat-trick in franchise history.
Moran scored the first three of the Barons’ four goals, but OKC was already trailing 3-0 when he began his scoring spree.
Midway through the second period, Moran got his first goal with assists from Alexandre Giroux and Colin McDonald.
Moran didn’t take long for an encore, putting another one past Monsters goalie John Grahame just more than four minutes later to eventually end the second period at 3-2.
With fewer than five minutes left in the game, Moran recorded his hat-trick, sending the puck into the top of the net to tie the game.
At that point, a tie might have been acceptable considering the miraculous comeback that had already taken place.
But the Barons were set on picking up their first win and made it happen at the 18:37 mark of the third.
Left winger Linus Omark took a pass from Liam Reddox, sending it past Grahame and all-but-sealing the Barons’ first victory in dramatic fashion.
The Barons (1-2-1-0) will now have to leave the confines of their home arena and hit the road for the first time this season. They head to Houston on Sunday to take on the Aeros at 4:05 p.m.
