TULSA, Oklahoma – Todd Graham summed up the Golden Hurricane’s struggles in the first half of the season with six little words.
“We’ve just got to get better,” he said.
Tulsa enters Saturday’s home conference game against Tulane with a 1-3 league record. Tulsa sits in fourth place in the Conference USA West division ahead of only Tulane and Rice.
Understandably, they haven’t gotten off to the start the coaching staff wanted.
“Real easily, you could be sitting here 5-1,” said Graham. “We’ve been whipped and played poorly one game.
“If we could defend a hail mary pass we’re 4-2, and one or two plays you could be sitting here 5-1.”
Tulsa lost on a last-second touchdown in Week 1 against East Carolina. They lost last week against Southern Methodist because they couldn’t slow down Mustangs quarterback Kyle Padron. The early losses keep piling up and Tulsa hopes to stop the bleeding against a Tulane team that’s near the bottom of the NCAA in rushing per game.
“We don’t under estimate (anybody),” said lineman Tyrunn Walker.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
