Oklahoma City Barons Lose in First Game
The Houston Aeros rolled past the Barons in the new franchise's first game.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Barons played their first game Saturday, but the Houston Aeros didn’t give them a warm welcome, topping the Barons 5-1.
Colton Giles lit the lamp first for Houston in the 12th minute of the contest with the assist from Jean-Michael Doust. Five minutes later, Jon DiSalvatore scored in the power play, Doust on the assist again, to take a 2-0 lead.
In the eighth minute of the second period, Joel Broda extended the Aeros lead to 3-0.
Temu Hartikainen scored Oklahoma City’s first goal in franchise history in the 11th minute of the second period to close the deficit to two goals.
However, Petr Klaus extended the lead to 4-1 eight minutes later to head into the break with a commanding lead. Klaus tacked on another goal in the eighth minute of the third period to push the lead to four goals late in the game with Doust’s third assist of the night.
Joel Broda added one more to the total in the seventeenth minute to take a 5-1 lead.
Houston goalie Matt Hackett was nearly perfect on the night, stopping 30 of the Barons 31 shots on the night, while Martin Gerber allowed six goals with 20 saves.
