What You Need to Know?.
Louisiana-Lafayette has not been stout defensively this season; the Ragin’ Cajuns have allowed 35 points per game this season while only scoring 20. In their only game against an opponent from a major conference – their season opener against Georgia – the Ragin’ Cajuns allowed 55 points to the Bulldogs. In their two wins this season, Louisiana-Lafayette has won by a combined eight points.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have defied expectations for what was called an inexperienced team; Oklahoma Stateis averaging 52.2 points per game while allowing just 29.5 per contest. Dana Holgorsen’s new offensive system has reinvigorated the offense and the Cowboys have averaged 534 yards per game through four games. Surprisingly with the pass-heavy offense, 170 of those yards have come on the ground.
Who You Need to Watch?
With Kevis Streeter going out for the season with a knee injury, the Ragin’ Cajuns’ next leading rusher is averaging 19 yards per game and 2.6 yards per carry. Quarterback Chris Masson has done a great job keeping the ball out of the other team’s hands. On his 103 pass attempts this season, he has completed more than 50 percent of his passes and has thrown just one interception.
Brandon Weeden’s skill set has translated nicely to the wide-open offense. In his four starts this season, Weeden has averaged 314 yards per game and three touchdowns in each game, while completing 71 percent of his passes. When Justin Gent went out with an injury against Texas A&M, senior linebacker Tolu Moala played 103 plays and filled in well for the Cowboys, bringing down the ball carrier eight times.
