NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The University of OklahomaRuf/Neks will not face criminal charges following the organization’s involvement with the alleged vandalism.
On Monday, McClain County District Attorney Greg Mashburn said he would file misdemeanor charges against the four students. The Ruf/Neks were caught defacing the Goldsby Bridge, located along Interstate 35.
Traditionally, the group paints “Red River Raid” on the bridge on the eve of the OU-Texas weekend.
"I told them I understood it was a tradition, but it was still defacing state property and they couldn't be doing that," McClain County Sheriff's Deputy Brandon McDonald said.
Instead of filing charges, Mashburn said he plans to discuss alternative punishment with the four students.
