STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- After a record-setting performance Saturday, OSU quarterback Brandon Weeden was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
Not only is this Weeden’s first player of the week honor, but also on Saturday he became the first Cowboy quarterback to pass for 300 yards in a first half. The 26-year-old threw for 328 yards and five scores in the first two quarters of play.
Overall, Weeden completed 23-of-32 passes for 409 yards and six touchdowns in the Cowboys 65-28 rout of Tulsa.
The Edmond, Okla. native played the first half and one possession in the third quarter when he connected to Justin Blackmon for an 81-yard touchdown pass.
Through three games, Weeden ranks sixth nationally in pass efficiency at 186.34 and ninth in total offense per game with 314.44 yards per contest.
Weeden is the second Cowboy to earn Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, as Kendall Hunter was honored after rushing for 257 yards against Washington State in week one.
The Cowboys return to action a week from Thursday against Texas A&M (3-0). Kickoff is set for 6:30 inside Boone Pickens Stadium.
