What You Need to Know?.
Just because Troy is from the Sun Belt, don’t underestimate the Trojans. Troy has won outright the last two Sun Belt conference titles and tied for the two previous. The Trojans are known for their offense and put up 30 points in a last-second win over Bowling Green. Look for Troy to spread the ball, 12 different players had at least one reception in the win over the Falcons.
Oklahoma State surprised everyone against Washington State with its commitment to the running game, rushing seven more times than they passed against the Cougars for a 6.6 yards per rush average. They didn’t slack on the passing game either, five receivers had three or more catches and five more players had at least one catch.
Who You Need to Watch?
Running back Shawn Southward proved to be a consistent threat on the ground for Troy, rushing 13 times for 70 yards and a score, averaging more than five yards per carry. Jason Bruce showed that he is a big-play threat only brining in two passes, but finished the day as the Trojans second-leading receiver.
Kendall Hunter turned heads in the home opener and answered questions about his ankle. He rushed for a career high 257 yards and foru touchdowns, and averaged 12.2 yards per carry. Justin Blackmon emerged as the Cowboys clear-cut No. 1 option, pulling in eight passes for 125 yards and three scores. Quarterback Brandon Weeden settled into the offense late, going 22-of-30 for 218 yards and three touchdowns.
