COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado -- Colorado Springs’ late-game heroics sunk Oklahoma City yet again Tuesday as the Sky Sox topped the RedHawks 7-6 on a walk-off single Tuesday.
Oklahoma City (61-55) trailed 6-0 going into the top of the eighth, but rallied to tie the game. After back-to-back walks to start the inning, Kevin Richardson doubled to score two and close the gap to 6-2. Three at-bats later, Matthew Brown singled to center to bring Kevin Richardson home.
Two batters later, Brandon Boggs singled to center field to score Craig Gentry and close the lead to one run. After a pitching change, Ryan Garko singled to center field to score Davis and Brown to tie the game at 6-6.
In the bottom of the ninth, after a throwing error allowed Jonathan Herrera to advance to third, Jay Payton singled to center to bring him home to take a 7-6 lead and end the game.
Despite blowing the save, Franklin Morales (3-0) received a win for his outing, allowing just one hit in his 1.2 innings pitched. Pedro Strop allowed one hit and one run in his .2 innings of service in the loss.
Oklahoma City will try to rebound in the series finale at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday at Security Service Field.
