Tulsa, Oklahoma -- The Drillers could not have imagined a more demoralizing start to a game.
Tulsa pitcher Johnathan Aristil gave up two home runs in the first three at-bats of the night, leading to a 7-3 loss to the Springfield Cardinals on Friday.
Springfield’s Daryl Jones and Matt Carpenter both sent homers to right center field to start the game.
The Drillers (52-58) scratched out a run in the bottom of the second on a Warren Schaeffer sacrifice fly to score shortstop Hector Gomez.
But the Cardinals responded with another homer in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth to put them up 6-1.
Tulsa homered again in the bottom of the fifth but couldn’t keep up with the Cardinals’ pace for the evening.
Schaeffer led Tulsa with two RBIs and Gomez scored twice. Artisil picked up the loss for Tulsa while Nicholas Additon got the win for Springfield (59-52).
The two teams will meet again at 7:05 p.m. Saturday in Tulsa.
