The “Look” of the Tulsa Defensive Line

TULSA, Oklahoma – Between the quotes, quips and sometimes hilarity, media day gives reporters a feel of what a team is going to be like for that particular season.

Tulsa University Head Coach Todd Graham spoke at the podium for roughly 30 minutes at the team’s media day on Friday and perhaps one of the more interesting tidbits was how the defensive line was “going to look like a Division-I defensive line this year.”

“There’s some 6-foot-5, some 6-foot-6, some 280, 300 pound guys out there that can run,” Graham said.

“I didn’t know we didn’t look like one last year, first off,” said sophomore defensive lineman Cory Dorris laughed. “We’re a lot bigger this year. Obviously I’ve gained some weight – this year I’ve put on about 10 or 15 pounds. Odrick Ray, he weighs about 275 and Darrell Zellars, he’s our JuCo transfer nose guard, he’s a hoss.”

Tulsa has been known for its offense the last three seasons and considering Graham worked on the defensive side of the ball at both West Virginia and Tulsa, that’s an image he wants to change.

“We want to build the same reputation defensively,” Graham said.

If nothing else, the Golden Hurricane will look the part.
