OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City RedHawks allowed a huge sixth inning and could not recover in a 9-4 loss to the Iowa Cubs Saturday.
The RedHawks (50-41) took an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Ryan Garko in the second inning, but that was the last time they held the lead.
The Cubs (51-42) erupted for six runs in the fourth inning, starting with a lead-off home run by Welington Castillo and ending with an RBI single with Castillo. In between, Darwin Barney drove a run home with a single, and Brad Snyder launched a three-run homer.
Snyder continued his big night in the eighth inning, when he hit another three-run home run to give him six RBIs in the game and push Iowa’s lead to 9-1. Oklahoma City managed to add a run in the bottom of the eighth and two more in the ninth, but never threatened to eliminate the lead.
Guillermo Moscoso (5-3) started the game well, but unraveled in the fourth inning. He gave up just two hits in the first three innings, but allowed six hits in the big fourth inning. He did not come back for the fifth and was credited with the loss.
Jay Jackson (6-6) earned the win for Iowa after scattering seven hits across five innings of work and giving up only one run.
The RedHawks have now lost back-to-back games for the first time since their first two games of July, but will try to stop that streak in the series finale at 4:05 p.m. Sunday.
