OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City RedHawks could muster just four hits and fell 4-0 to the Iowa Cubs Friday.
The Cubs (50-42) quickly took the lead in the first inning when Snyder delivered an RBI double. They added two runs in the second on RBI singles by Sam Fuld and Darwin Barney and another in the third inning on a solo home run by Bryan LaHair. Neither team scored for the rest of the night.
Iowa starter Jeff Samardzija (6-1) was nearly unhittable, and reliever Hung-Wen Chen was just as good. Samardzija gave up just two hits in his five innings of work to earn the win, and Chen also held the RedHawks (50-40) to two hits in three innings.
Rich Harden (0-1) struggled in his second rehab start, giving up all four runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings. Doug Mathis relieved him in what was also his second rehab appearance. Mathis pitched much better, holding Iowa to just one hit in 3.1 innings.
The teams split the first two games of their series, which will continue at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
