OKLAHOMA CITY -- After having a doubleheader canceled Tuesday, the Oklahoma City RedHawks won the first game of a doubleheader with the Nashville Sounds 11-6.
The Sounds took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Mat Gamel in the top of the first, but the RedHawks answered in the bottom half.
With two runners on, Chad Tracy homered over the left field wall to take a 3-1 lead. Two at-bats later, Hernan Iribarren hit a bases-clearing single to right field to push the lead to four runs.
Nashville scored five unanswered runs in the second and the third innings to retake the lead, but Oklahoma City’s bats came alive again late.
In the bottom of the fifth, Chris Davis scored on a throwing error by Sounds’ short stop Luis Cruz and in the next at-bat Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled to bring Ryan Garko home from second. Saltalamacchia would come home later in the inning by stealing home after a Kevin Richardson strikeout to take an 8-6 lead.
Oklahoma City added three more in the bottom of the sixth, one on passed ball and two driven in by Saltalamacchia – a two-RBI single to bring Mitch Moreland and Craig Gentry home to push the lead to 11-6.
After starter Tanner Scheppers got the no decision, Warner Madrigal (1-0) was set up to receive his first win after allowing one hit in 2.2 innings of service. Nashville starter Chris Waters (5-5) pitched 4.1 innings for the Sounds, allowing four earned runs on eight hits.
Game Two: Oklahoma City 5, Nashville 4 (13 innings)
It took a bit longer in the second game of the doubleheader, but the RedHawks walked-off with a 5-4 win. Gentry delivered the winning single in the bottom of the 13th, scoring Iribarren.
Michael Ballard notched his fifth win of the season as the team's sixth reliever out of the pen in the second game.
Gentry also added a home run, as did Davis - his 10th of the year.
