TULSA, Oklahoma -- Two poor quarters doomed the Tulsa Shock to a 69-54 loss to the Washington Mystics Saturday, extending their losing streak to 10 games.
The Shock feel behind 10-5 in the opening minutes of the game, but and 8-0 run – including back-to-back 3-pointers by Shanna Crossley in her first game back from sickness – gave it a 13-10 lead.
However, the second quarter wasn’t kind to Tulsa.
After starting the quarter with a one-point lead, Tulsa committed eight turnovers and missed 10 consecutive shots en route to being outscored 16-4 in the quarter. The Shock’s only field goal came with less than two minutes left in the half on a Crossley 19-foot jumper to close the gap to four points.
Washington scored a quick seven points to finish the quarter and push the lead to 30-19.
Tulsa trailed for majority of the third quarter, but with 3:32 left it started a 12-0 run to pull within four points and closed the quarter out trailing 48-40.
But once again, the even-numbered quarter did the Shock in.
Tulsa trailed by only seven points early in the quarter, but Washington scored a quick six points to take a commanding 56-43 lead. That run made the difference, as the Shock was outscored 21-14 in the closing 10 minutes.
The Mystics’ Monique Currie led all scorers with 17 points, while Crystal Langhorne added 15 points and nine rebounds. Scholanda Robinson led Tulsa with 16 points and Crossley added 11 points in 28 minutes in her return to the Shock after being hospitalized and missing two weeks with a staph infection.
The Shock will try to break the streak at 6 p.m. Thursday at the BOK Center against Indiana.
