TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Drillers scored six runs on three home runs Thursday to earn a 6-2 win over the Corpus Christi Hooks.
In the bottom of the first, Tulsa (33-42) put runners on base with back-to-back walks. Jason Van Kooten homered to left field in the next at-bat to take a 3-0 lead.
The Hooks’ (36-41) Jhon Florentino homered to right field in the first at-bat of the second inning to cut the lead to two runs. He added another leadoff home run in the top of the fourth to close the lead to 3-2.
The Drillers gave themselves some breathing room with a leadoff home run by Charles Blackmon in the top of the fifth.
Bronson Sardinha added a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to give the Drillers a 6-2 advantage.
Christian Friedrich (1-5) received his first win of the season after giving up two earned runs on four hits and striking out nine in his six innings of service. Corpus Christi only got two innings of service from Tyler Lumsden (4-6), who gave up five hits and three earned runs.
The three-game series continues at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at ONEOK Field.
