OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City RedHawks dropped the final game of a four-game series 5-0 to the Omaha Royals Tuesday.
The RedHawks (43-35) had runners on base in seven of the game’s nine innings, but failed to drive any of them home. The closest they came was in the second inning, when Jarrod Saltalamacchia was thrown out at home plate to end the inning.
While Oklahoma City was scattering its hits, the Royals (41-36) were making the most of theirs. They took a quick lead in the top of the first, when the game’s first batter reached on a single and Kurt Metins immediately followed with a two-run home run.
That lead stayed intact until the fifth inning, when Scott Thorman launched a three-run homer to stretch the lead to 5-0. That was all Omaha would need.
Elizardo Ramirez (4-3) finished with the loss after giving up all five runs on eight hits in five innings of work. Manauris Baez (1-0) earned his first win of the year by giving up five hits in six innings.
Oklahoma City won the first three games of the series, but has now been shut out in three of its last six games. The RedHawks will begin a new road series against the Albuquerque Isotopes starting at 8:05 p.m. Thursday.
