OKLAHOMA CITY -- Bobby Funk Jr. told Oklahoma Sports Sports Director Dean Blevins the Oklahoma City Council has approved the sale of the Oklahoma City RedHawks, but the move still requires the “city’s approval.”
Funk told Blevins that the decision to sell the team was made because the offer was “too good to refuse.” He also confirmed the team will remain in Oklahoma City, but he has not spoken to the Rangers about the RedHawks’ future as the Triple-A affiliate, as they have been for the past 27 years.
The new owners of the team do have the option to move the team in the future.
Baseball Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan is the president and part owner of the Rangers, while his two sons are affiliated with the Triple-A Round Rock Express. The new Rangers’ management are expected to affiliate the Express as the Rangers’ Triple-A squad.
